My red devil is 4.5 inches long in a 29 gallon.HOw long would it take for her to get 6 inches or more.

note:he is in the tank all buy himself

and could she stay in the tank by itself for life becuse a cichlid specialist said a female could stay in a 29gallon by itself.

I have a midas. Pretty close to a red devil. When I got him he was 5 inches in a 25 gallon tank, I noticed him very unhappy looking and also extremly aggressive ramming the glass, I know thats common for midas and red devils to do, but he did it more than normal. He would grow very much at all. I decided to move him up to a larger tank a 55 gal. He is now 12" his color is great and hes less agressive alot happier. so even if a red devil femlae could LIVE in a 29 gal, will she be happy? Cichlids need space alot of it, I even got a 108 gallon on the way for mine. Try a 55 prolly great size for your fish:)

midas or true rd is has a very similar attitude, both loves to bang on glass. with these guys it takes like 1"/month, water quality, food plays a big role on growth too. if you put the guy in a smaller tank it won't be that happy and it'll tend to bang on glass more, if you place in larger tank it will be more calm.

I can't say I agree with that information. I may not be an expert, but I think most people would say the minimum tank size for a female to grow completely and be happy would be a 55 to a 60 gallon tank. Males should have atleast 75 or more to themselves. I have had a 60 gallon arcrylic tank for the longest time and I'm currently growing up a group of 7 juvie RD/Midas cichlids untill they pair off. After that, I only plan on keeping my male eventually by himself untill he gets around 6 inches or so. After that, I'll be picking up anywhere between an 80 to 100 gallon tank for him so he can grow comfortably and be happy.

Oh and remember, they will grow much faster if kept in a more roomier tank. Good luck!
