A good canister filter such as an ehiem will be better than either of those.

Mainly because of the media surface area in the canister. Personally I don't like canister filters because of the maintenance. If I can get by with 2 Emporer 400's on my future 90 gallon tank, I'd rather do that instead.

If you have to choose one of the power filters you mentioned, go with the Emporer series instead. If you ablsolutely have to have a canister filter, then go with an ehime over those fluvals. I had bad experiences with fluvals which led to them being the first and the last time I'll ever use a canister unless I get over a 125 gallon tank.

Well when I get a bigger tank then 100 gallons, Those are the models I'll be looking at for canister filters. Eheim....."German Engineering in the House!" lol!

I'm running a HOB (hang on back) filter, that is for a 55 gallon, but just for the extra filtration I also have the HOB for a 20 gallon on there!
