Thanks for the reply...no, the butter is pretty tough for sure...and he's about 17 inches long..I have several Red Devils that constantly pick on him....but I overcrowd the tank with tons of filtration to keep hard core disputes down....

Zitrone....I don't know how long they live....I had a Red Belly Pirahna that died about six months ago....was still very healthy looking, we had him/her almost 15 years!!!....When I bought it for my son he was about an inch long...my son was 11 years old, he's now 26. I feed my cichlids a "homebrew" food. I thaw out beefheart, brine shrimp and bloodworms, mix with high protein flake with a vegetable/greens content and crushed pellets, then re-freeze. They seem to love it and have thrived health wise. I rarely feed live food as I'm afraid of the disease possibilities. One interesting note, when I did feed the pirahna live food, I'd buy goldfish, keep them in a sick tank for about a week prior to feeding, and treat them with broad spectrum meds., there was one goldfish that he/she? wouldn't eat?...I'd put three or four into the tank at a time, the pirahna would eat all but that one.....that one stayed with the pirahna for over two years!!!...
